Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday insisted that the GOP will have “a better choice than my old running mate” Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
“Times call for different leadership,” Pence told NBC News’ Ali Vitali, in another apparent attempt to oust his former boss.
Voters have told Pence they want “a return to the policies of the Trump-Pence administration,” he said.
But he also “wants to see us and our politics return to the kind of decency and respect that Americans show us every day,” he said — an apparent reference to the former president’s disrespectful remarks.

Trump announced his third consecutive bid for the White House in November.
He was joined in the race by former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Pence has yet to officially launch his campaign.
“We’re listening, we’re reflecting, we’re talking to the company,” said Vitali. “In the spring, our family expects to have a clear understanding of our calling.”
The relationship between Trump and Pence was strained after the latter refused to overturn the results of the 2020 election, prompting some angry Trump supporters to storm the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, calling for Pence’s suspension.
Pence said he hasn’t talked to Trump lately.
The former veep is now fighting a grand jury subpoena for a Justice Department investigation into the 2021 uprising.
