Now you are making a statement! Michelle Yeoh brought her A-game style to the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on February 26 – and did not deny her dress deserved a double take.
The 60-year-old actress received the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role as Evelyn in the sci-fi film. Everything everywhere Everything together – and his ensemble earned its own award.
The Malaysian native appeared on the modern runway for this year’s awards show, which took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Yeoh wore a black Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown from the luxury label’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection, styled by Jordan Johnson Chung.
The gorgeous gown is undeniably one of a kind, featuring a yellow beaded fringe across the front. Chung accessorized the memorable number with pointed black Christin Louboutin heels, a black watch, and earrings.
Unsurprisingly, the unique design drew mixed reactions on social media. While it received praise from fashion fans, critics have made some critical but arguably funny observations about the fringe detailing of the dress.
“She looks stunning, but the dress gives off a hamster cage vibe,” wrote an Instagram user, while others compared it to “packaging filler.” A third compares it to pasta, asking the question: “Is it fries or rotini?”
But despite his critics, it’s no secret that Yeoh is one to watch, both on screen and on the red carpet. This awards season, she also wore Valentino, Carolina Herrera, and Christian Dior this award season, cementing her status as a connoisseur of haute couture.
One of our favorite trends this season? Sequins. For the 80th annual Golden Globes, the actress wore a strapless Armani PrivĂ© gown. Like her SAG Awards gown, she pulled it straight off the couture runway, first seen as part of the label’s Fall 2022 collection.
