Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for former President Donald Trump, went after the Republicans’ “false outrage” over 45 possible indictments and asked where they aimed to disagree when faced with legal consequences for their role in Stormy Daniels hush-money small.
Cohen, who has made several media appearances in recent days, was arrested after pleading guilty to tax evasion and campaign finance violations linked to the payoff.
The comments came as Trump wrote over the weekend that he would be arrested on charges stemming from an investigation by the Manhattan district attorney’s office into his involvement in the scheme.
Cohen, in an interview with MSNBC’s Alex Witt on Sunday, called the case “fugazi” and slammed Republicans for their “fake outrage” over Trump’s potential indictment.
“At the end of the day, you start to hear all this fake anger by the Republicans. Where was the anger when they did it to me? Well, they were silent,” said Cohen.
He added: “And now they are afraid because the top leaders seem to be in serious trouble.”
Cohen also expressed hope to see Trump take responsibility for his role in the case, but slammed on the brakes because he wanted to see him “handcuffed and paraded.”
“Not because he’s not worthy, considering, of course, the way the court found it but more because it’s an embarrassment to our country,” Cohen said.
“Can you imagine our allies and our enemies, how they can like or despise us as a direct result? Indeed, we as Americans must respect the institution of the presidency and, sadly enough, Donald is the president of the United States.
