Michael Cohen, who has been Donald Trump’s lawyer and fixer for more than a decade, has some great recommendations for lawyers who might be considering working with the former president.
When Trump reportedly faced impending charges over the payment that Cohen allowed adult actor Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about his relationship with Trump — a payment that saw Cohen himself convicted and sent to prison — the lawyer summed up the advice in one word on Monday for MSNBC.
“The smartest thing a lawyer can do, if Donald Trump asks you to represent him in the nightmare he’s going to have: run,” he said.
“Run as soon as possible. And don’t run to Florida and especially not Palm Beach,” he said, indicating the location of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. “Run east or west, but definitely don’t go with Donald. That’s what I want to say.”
Cohen said Trump has so far avoided accountability and has always thrown those around him under the bus.
The revolving door of lawyers working with Trump today is a “clown show,” Cohen continued. He imagines him “getting out of a Mini Cooper with floppy shoes and a red nose because what he said made no sense.”
A video of Trump’s new lawyer Joe Tacopina trying to grab a piece of paper from MSNBC’s Ari Melber during an interview went viral earlier this week.
During an appearance on the network, Cohen said that the situation of Trump’s lawyers gave new meaning to the slogan “Make America Great Again”.
“There are more people around about lawyers, so the big joke going around now is that ‘MAGA’ means ‘make lawyers get lawyers,’ and that’s sadly true,” he said.
