MANILA, Philippines—Meralco and Allein Maliksi have officially apologized for the brawl that occurred during the match between Meralco and Converge in the PBA Governor’s Cup on Friday night.

During the overtime minutes of Meralco’s 132-129 win over the FiberXers, Maliksi choked out Barkley Eboña after a deliberate foul committed by the latter.

Meralco issued a statement saying that while they stood by Maliki, the incident did not reflect the culture of the Bolts as a whole. The team also stated that Eboña and Maliksi have cleared the air.

“In response to being attacked by Barkley Ebona during yesterday’s match, Allen Maliki put his hand near the player’s neck. No pressure was applied and Allein restrained himself from further action until he was separated. After the game, the two players spoke and expressed their regret for their actions .

“While we stand with Allein, a good teammate, we also recognize that the provocative reaction does not reflect the culture we have built.”

Similarly, Maliksi also apologized to his fans and Eboña himself through his Instagram story.

“I apologize to the audience, the fans of PBA and Converge, especially to Barkley for the bad behavior I showed yesterday during the heat of this game,” the forward said.

“None of my actions can be blamed. This incident is a lesson for me to do better. Once again, I apologize.”

The incident resulted in one technical foul in Eboña and two in Maliksi.

Maliksi finished with 12 points in the win that moved the Bolts into a two-way tie with the fifth-seeded FiberXers with identical 6-4 records.
