“We know nothing is going to happen in America, at least not anytime soon,” he said. “I’m sorry.”
But there is another point for him “ridiculous rhetoric,” and it is to ask people – especially white conservatives – “the danger of anger, to radicalize their racial grievances, to indulge the feelings of victims, to turn people against their neighbors, but especially against Washington, DC and both coasts.
He noted that Greene has a long history of inflammatory comments, and played a clip of him claiming that Democrats want Republicans dead “and they’ve started killing.”
“You might think, ‘It’s bonkers, but Republican kooks like Greene have been saying bonkers, hurtful and dangerous things for decades, and that’s true,'” he said. “But previous kooks in previous decades did not have an ‘iron bond’ with House speakers like Greene.”
Greene is a close ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who has rewarded his loyalty with plum committee assignments.
“The previous kooks were called out by the so-called moderates in the Republican party itself when they proposed it as crazy as a national divorce,” he said. “That unfortunately is no more.”
