Medeama brace for stern Heart of Lions test in GPL title push, says Ibrahim Tanko

League leaders Medeama SC are preparing for a defining clash in their title charge, with head coach Ibrahim Tanko warning that opponents Heart of Lions will pose a serious threat despite their mid-table standing.

Medeama host Lions on Sunday, May 17 at the Tarkwa TNA Park in a Week 33 fixture that could shape the outcome of the Ghana Premier League season.

With 59 points, the hosts sit top of the table and are just two games away from securing the title.

Tanko acknowledged the challenge ahead, pointing to Lions’ quality and consistency across the campaign.

“We are expecting a very tough opponent. Heart of Lions is one of the teams that are playing very good football, regardless of their position. We saw them last season when they came second, I think.

“This season, even when the league started, after four or five games, they were leading the table. So, Heart of Lions is one of the teams that are very, very tough. But like I said, we faced them at their home and beat them 1-0.”

The reverse fixture in December ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Medeama, a result that could provide psychological advantage heading into Sunday’s encounter.

With the title within touching distance, Tanko’s men will aim to maintain their strong home form and edge closer to lifting the trophy in front of their supporters.
