The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is in the starting 23-man squad selected by Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

But Blom was withdrawn from Bafana by US Premier League side St Louis City with an undisclosed illness as the reason.

That really angered the Bafana mentor who said he would ask Safa to follow up with Fifa, although he then added that they had received a medical report on Blom from St Louis.

Clubs are not allowed by law to withdraw players from the national team without valid reasons.

And if they are injured, they will have to travel to their country to be assessed unless the club and country have an understanding.

Meanwhile, Blom has revealed that he is now back training with his club just a week after being ruled out.

However, reports from local media in the US indicate that Blom has been isolated for showing signs of Covid-19.

“South Africa is my country. I love my country,” said Blom as quoted by St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

“It is the dream of every youngster or professional player to represent his country.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed that I can’t go, but that’s the way it is,” Blom said.

Blom said turning down Bafana was a difficult decision

The 24-year-old said it was not an easy decision to turn down the call.

“I have to sit down and think if it is necessary for me to go to the national team.

“And I feel sick right now, and I haven’t practiced.

“I think it’s good for me and the national team to get better and then get a good training time. I hope they call me in the future,” added Blom.

His place in Bafana was taken by Orlando Pirates midfielder Miguel Timm.

However, they have made their trip to Ivory Coast a bit more difficult after a 2-2 draw with Liberia at home on Friday.

Bafana allowed their opponents to come back from 2-0 down to end with a result that put them under pressure. The second leg is in Liberia on Tuesday.
