Matt Gaetz Threatens To Quit Congress On Fox News And Twitter Has Thoughts

Rep. Matt Gaetz threatened to quit Congress on Friday if House Republicans make a deal with Democrats to elect a GOP speaker – and critics were hilariously eager for him to make good on that promise. (See the video below.)

Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked Gaetz, one of the holdouts of far-right Limits Rep. Kevin McCarthy Election through 11 ballots, if it will be “OK” with bipartisan results with moderate Democrats to break the impasse.

Gaetz said there’s no way that’s going to happen, because Democrats won’t break ranks from electing House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.).

To prove his certainty, he said: “If the Democrats join forces to elect moderate Republicans, I will resign from the House of Representatives.”

A theme emerged in Twitter users’ responses.

“Promise, promise,” wrote one person.

“We can only hope,” wrote another.
