Matt Damon reveals why he appeared in Crypto.com’s most infamous ad

Hollywood star Matt Damon has finally opened up about why he appeared on the famous Crypto.com digital currency exchange “Fortune Favors the Brave”, which was once the subject of endless mockery.

Speaking to the Associated Press on March 27 at the premiere of his new film, Damon seemed a little shy when explaining his reasons for appearing in the ad. He said it was mainly because the clean water initiative, Water.org, was in an uncertain financial situation, explaining:

“We had a down year at Water.org, and I did the commercial as an effort to raise money for Water.org.”

Damon co-founded the clean water project in 2009 with engineer and philanthropist Gary White. The goal is to increase access to clean water globally by providing small loans that finance the purchase and installation of faucets and toilets.

Damon explained that he once gave his entire salary to Water.org because it was in a terrible financial position.

The Hollywood icon went on to say that “Crypto.com heard about this and gave $1 million dollars to Water.org alone,” before adding:

“I’m always very grateful to him, and what he’s done for our foundation.”

Released in October 2021, the ad stars Damon amid a digital landscape of historic figures such as the Wright brothers and Sir Edmund Hillary. It appeared on billboards and television spots around the world.
