Marcus Rashford has announced that he will not be in Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag starting line-up against Wolves after sleeping in and being late to a team meeting.
The Dutch left Rashford on the bench for the trip to Molineux, although the 25-year-old scored two goals in two games after returning from the World Cup.
However, he was introduced as a half-time substitute, and went on to score the winner, before being sent off twice for handball following a VAR review.
Talk to BT sports after full-time, he said: “I was a bit late for the meeting – I overslept.
“These are team rules and mistakes can happen, but I’m disappointed not to play, but I understand the decision and I’m happy that we won the game.
“I think we can draw the line below that and move forward.
“I’m in a good place and I’m happy with the way we’re progressing. In the past, we could have easily lost the game or drawn it.”

Ten Hag was also asked about the decision to leave Rashford.
In his post-match interview, he said: “After the decision, he went in, he was bright, he was lively, he scored a goal – that was the right reaction.
“Of course [that is the end of the matter]but everyone has to conform to the rules and values and, if you respond like this, this is the right answer.”
The United boss was questioned further in the press conference about whether to send a reminder to the squad to keep standards high.
“That’s how it should be,” added Ten Hag. “We’re a tough team to beat, but that’s because we attack with 11 and defend with 11.
“That’s because everybody follows the rules. If you don’t do it anymore, if you don’t follow the rules, it flows onto the field.
“I am not satisfied with the performance [before Rashford was introduced]. I think we have a chance. We make them but they don’t [take them].
“I think we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We know Rashy can score goals and he did.
“It’s the responsibility of the individual players, some of them are not ready yet. If you’re not upfront and focused you have a problem.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has also been subject to disciplinary action in recent months at Old Trafford and, following the Portuguese’s move to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ten Hag said success will require effort across the board.
“I’m not talking about the past. Let’s talk about the future,” he said.
“We have taken a good step – first in the top four. But there is a long way to go. We have to win every game to get into a winning position.
“That’s what we’re going for. It’s going to take a lot of hard work from everybody.”
