The man who accused the police of planting narcotics in his car was arrested
Police on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, arrested a man believed to be the man in a viral audio that accused police of intentionally planting narcotics in his vehicle to extort money from him.
In the audio tape, the man introduced himself as Dr Patrick Asiedu and claimed that he was only released with a fingerprint test and his brother who is a soldier.
Police said investigations, so far, have established that the man arrested and detained by the police, is indeed Patrick Asiedu, but that he is an Uber driver and not a doctor.
“The investigation revealed that all the stories told in the audio tapes are false and totally fabricated by the suspect,” the police added in a statement.
The police also said that the military intervention and the alleged fight between the police officers and the military described in detail in the audio recording were all fake and a figment of the suspect’s imagination.
“Equally false is the clear description of having been taken to the Accra Central and Legon East Police Station as well as the Narcotics Control Commission. The claim of fingerprints taken is also false. Patrick Asiedu, the suspect, however, said he once witnessed the same incident” and the narration in the viral audio happened to one of the passengers.
“Meanwhile, in another audio tape that has come to the attention of the Police, the suspect claims to have met with the Inspector General of Police. We would like to state unequivocally that this claim is also false and should be taken into account.
“Investigations are ongoing and suspect Patrick Asiedu who is currently in police custody will be charged to court.”
