Man City went top with a win over title rivals Arsenal
Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League for the first time since November when they leapfrogged leaders Arsenal with an important win at the Emirates Stadium.
The reigning champions turned the tide in the second half in the biggest game of the domestic season as Arsenal paid a heavy price for individual mistakes.
Takehiro Tomiyasu’s poor backpass allowed Kevin de Bruyne to beat Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after 24 minutes, but Arsenal had to equalize three minutes before the break, Bukayo Saka scoring from the spot after City goalkeeper Ederson had tripped Eddie Nketiah.
City, who lacked enthusiasm in the opening phase, improved after the break and had a penalty of their own that could not be beaten for offside against Erling Haaland before showing ruthlessness to punish Arsenal.
Gabriel lost possession to allow Bernardo Silva and Haaland set up Jack Grealish to finish deflected after 72 minutes before ending Arsenal’s hopes with 10 minutes left.
Undeniably, Haaland was the scorer from De Bruyne’s pass to put City top on goal difference after having played one game more than Arsenal.
