It’s not every day you see a nonagenarian walking down the aisle. So, when a 99-year-old Kenyan, Johana Butuk, decided to marry for the first time, it made headlines.
At the weekend, Mr. Butuk married his girlfriend, Alice Jemeli, 40, after 20 years of dating.
The lovebirds tied the knot in a colorful wedding ceremony.
Kenyan newspaper, ‘The Standard‘, it was reported that when they first met in 2003, Jemeli (the bride) was only 20 years old while Butuk (the ex-husband) was 69. Despite the age difference, their love blossomed when they were dating.

According to the news, this is Mr. Butuk’s first marriage because he has never dated a woman for 99 years.
His wife, however, has three children from a previous relationship and is happy Mr. Butuk has been accepted.
Married in 99
Mr. Butuk said, there is a valid reason why he remained single for 99 years of his life on earth.

In an interview, he explained that he did not marry all his life because he wanted peace of mind.
“I was also busy with a stupid job, and when I decided to get married, all my friends were grandparents. But when I met my husband, I found that I had found what I wanted in life.
“Alice speaks less and helps to overcome challenges in life. I have been late in many things, but today I am happy because I am married. I believe that happiness in my marriage will make my life longer,” he said.
Even though she was young when they first met, she said he fell in love with her because of her humility.

“I was first introduced to a female friend, and we connected well despite our age difference. I’m happy because my husband is now mature and responsible,” he added.
Love at first sight
The bride’s story is no different because she said that she loved Mr. Butuk since before him.
“I fell in love with him when I first met him in 2003. I had left an abusive relationship, but when I met him through a woman, I fell in love with him because he was humble and listened to me.

“He was old, and I decided to be his maid because I was going to be a married woman like any other woman,” Jemeli said.
