‘So I’ll be the next President when the time comes’ – Alan


Past Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen believes he is the only one who can help the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) break the eight-year electoral cycle.

In a public speech on Tuesday evening, the presidential candidate popularly known as ‘Alan Cash’ said: “I want to use this platform to announce officially for the NPP leadership contest when the party officially opens nominations for that purpose. The president has laid a solid foundation for the development social economy of the country. My vision is to build this superstructure that will bring prosperity to this nation. Together we will eliminate eight.”

“To all those who will have the honor and privilege of being delegates to elect the Flagbearer of our great Party, the NPP, remember, Alan Kyerematen is your candidate to win power for you in 2024,” he said.

To every Ghanaian, he said, “The future of our country is bright. I want you, my fellow countrymen and women, to make me the next President when the time comes, and you will see a significant difference in you.

Alan Kyerematen resigned last week from the Akufo-Addo government, after serving in the portfolio since 2017 in what many felt was a focus on his presidential ambitions.

Mr. Kyerematen tried to lead the NPP in 2007, 2010 and 2014 but came second to President Akufo-Addo in all the quests.

He has championed the One District One Factory initiative since 2018, giving birth to around 170 factories across the country.

Under the leadership of Mr. Kyerematen in the Ministry of Trade, the country also witnessed the production of local vehicles by automotive giants such as Suzuki, VW, Nissan, Sino Trucks among others in the Automotive Development Policy.

Alan Kyerematen served in the same position between 2003 and 2007.

He has an extensive and distinguished record in international trade and public policy, corporate development, politics and diplomacy.

He is a former US Ambassador, UN Policy Advisor, lawyer and Senior Corporate Executive. As Minister of Trade, Industry and Special Initiatives of the President of Ghana from 2003 to 2007, he led the design, development and implementation of innovative programs and special interventions that have become new strategic pillars for Ghana’s economic growth.
