Maiden JICA Lecture Series: “JICA Chair” Opens In Ghana At The University Of Ghana, Legon | General News

On Thursday, March 16, 2023, JICA will hold the inaugural lecture series- “JICA Chair”, at the Premier University of Ghana, University of Ghana, Legon-Accra to share Japan’s unique development experience. The event will bring together policy makers, experts, academics, business leaders, diplomatic corps, civil society organizations, and former participants who have studied at Japanese Universities, all under one roof to exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences.

Japan is considered to be the first modernized country from a non-western background to build a free, democratic, prosperous and peaceful country based on the rule of law, without losing much of its tradition and identity. In this regard, Japan has rich experience and can be the best example or blueprint for developing countries to strive for development.

The lecture series, therefore, aims to share Japan’s experience and lessons through modernization and development cooperation in the hope of leading development studies globally and thereby contributing to sustainable development.

According to the background, JICA in 2018 launched the “JICA Development Study Program (JICA-DSP)” in collaboration with various Universities in Japan, with the aim of producing future leaders of developing countries. This program is designed to provide an opportunity to study academic fields in Japanese graduate schools, and Japanese studies that explore Japan’s experience of modernization and development cooperation, with a historical and cultural background.

In an effort to expand Japanese study opportunities in partner countries as well, JICA started the “JICA Chair (JICA Program for Japanese studies)” in collaboration with leading universities in partner countries.

JICA Chairman’s activities include short intensive lectures conducted by lecturers, sent from Japan, on Japan’s development experience, in the fields of politics, economics, public administration, law and more.

This inaugural lecture with the theme “Japan’s International Cooperation Policy towards Ghana and Africa” ​​will be led by Prof. KATO Hiroshi, Vice President, Japan International University. The event will be associated with Japanese cultural experiences organized by JICA volunteers as well as reports from former participants studying at Japanese Universities.
