A serious injury to Proteas spin bowler Keshav Maharaj slightly dented West Indies’ dominant Test series, with the visitors 284 runs away in the second Test at Wanderers on Saturday evening.
It was Maharaj who injured himself while trying to celebrate his second wicket of the day, having successfully called an LBW decision to Kyle Mayers to reduce the Windies to 34/6 in the second innings.

But Maharaj then collapsed and had to be stretchered off the pitch, with Cricket South Africa confirming later in the day that the player had suffered a complete rupture of the left Achilles tendon and would see a surgeon there to find out the extent of the injury.
After the game, Proteas coach Shukri Conrad was asked about the injury and the weather, he would tell his players to be in a celebratory tone.
“In Keshav, unfortunately it doesn’t look good. We are waiting for an MRI scan, but the initial report is that the Achilles is ruptured and there may be some deficiencies now. But we should always celebrate,” said Conrad.
