Mahama Gets ‘Fans’ In Parliament | Politics

His introduction was followed by various reactions from both sides of the house.

Former president, John Dramani Mahama received huge cheers from both sides of the house after his introduction by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, but each had his own message.

While members of the minority side cheered Mr. Mahama, the majority side in parliament chanted, “retirement”, “retirement”.

During this time, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo smiled and stroked his arm.

The former statesman, before this, had arrived in a gray suit and was welcomed by many, including the former President, John Agyekum Kufour.

The former president was one of many statesmen and other personalities present in parliament to hear the president’s State of the Nation address.

Some of them include the former president, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, members of the diplomatic corps, Supreme Court judges, traditional leaders and others.

SONA:

The State of the Nation Address complies with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which states that the President shall deliver a message on SONA to Parliament at the beginning of each session and before the dissolution of Parliament.

SONA is a constitutional obligation and an annual tradition where the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ghana reports on the state of the country, announces the government’s agenda for the coming year and proposes to Parliament certain legislative measures.

Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana requires Members of Parliament (MP), the Speaker of Parliament, and the Judiciary to accept the President’s SONA.
