Mahama even respects Akua Donkor instead of Adongo – Owusu Bempah

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy Director of Communications Ernest Owusu Bempah has responded to calls by Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta should resign or be sacked.

Mr. Owusu Bempah said that Mr. Adongo has no knowledge of economics and therefore needs to be taken into account.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Thursday, February 16 after the Minister of Finance’s presentation in Parliament on the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP), Mr. Owusu Bempah said “Where was Adongo when Seth Terkper performed poorly, 3 percent of GDP compared to Ofori- GDP 8.5 percent Atta before Covid hit and the whole NDC including the media told Seth Terkper to resign, where was Adongo then?

“We don’t need Adongo because we don’t know the economy. He is a midget when it comes to his knowledge of economics. He is part of the leadership in Mahama that runs the economy like a casino economy. But for Akufo-Addo’s leadership, the entire banking sector would have gone down, you see what happened to the banking sector, which ran the Ghanaian economy at that time? Isn’t it Mahama and Adongo?

“Is he part of the Economic Management Team? Is he even the Deputy Minister? If he has that knowledge, why didn’t he invite him to be part of the economic discussion in Senchi when he invited Akua Donkor, he respects Akua Donkor more than Adongo.

“So I don’t see Adongo as a relevant person economically because when Mahama was in government, he respected Akua Donkor more than Adongo, Adongo’s views were not respected, so he cried because he was the economic messiah. in this country, he mocked himself, he have nothing.

“At the time when Mahama opened the casino economy and he needed people to go to Senchi to take decisions when going to the IMF at that time, where was Adongo? Akua Donkor was called there, why was Adongo not called there?”

Mr. Adongo has asked Mr. Ofori-Atta, to resign on the floor of Parliament, where he was summoned on Wednesday to explain the controversial DDEP.

Mr. Ofori-Atta has appeared before parliament to explain the restructuring exercise undertaken by the government and which led to the introduction of the Programme, which led to the continuous picketing of pensioners in his Ministry.

The Finance Minister has made it clear that “the government is committed to the welfare of Senior Citizens and pensioners”.

“The government will respect coupon payments and maturing principles.”

But commenting on the address, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker called for Mr. Ofori-Atta to resign immediately before leaving the House of Representatives.

He said everything showed that the Finance Minister had failed to do his job.

He argued that Mr Ofori-Atta had made government bonds riskier than before, going so far as to say lending to him might be safer.

Mr. Adongo said the Minister of Finance just kept quoting the Bible to cover up his shortcomings.

The lawmaker urged Ghanaians to be wary of public officials who do not ask for payment for their services, indicating that there is no salary for Mr. Ofori-Atta.

Mr. Adongo said state officials like Mr. Ofori-Atta are dangerous to the health of the country and that is where the Finance Minister has now brought Ghana.

Before Mr. Adongo spoke, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, asked Members of Parliament to use parliamentary language instead of talking like in chop bars and markets in Ghana.
