Maritzburg put up a spirited fight and will be left to blame for their mistakes as they continue to fight for survival in the DStv premiership with seven games to go.

With a bit of luck, the Chiefs could get the three points, but they will have a lot of homework to do. They remain in the same spot as Orlando Pirates at the top.

The leaders again got the start they wanted when the lead was just three minutes into the game.

The goal was scored by Keagan Dolly who completed the counterattack, sending his effort past Ricardo Leaner from Ashley Du Preez’s cross.

And a little over five minutes later, they were up 2-0. This is after Christian Saile showed the class.
The Congolese striker got the ball just outside the Maritzburg box, and beat a defender as he set the ball to the left and sent a low shot into the net.

But just over five minutes later, Maritzburg cut the lead in half. Mogmad De Goede beat a Chiefs defender with a header from a corner to make it 2-1.

And in the last five minutes, Maritzburg pulled level. Amadou Soukouma scored with a superb free kick just outside the Chiefs box.

The early stages of the second half were a mess with neither side playing with any rhythm as they avoided each other.

Chiefs were awarded a controversial penalty in the 70th minute after a scramble in the Maritzburg box.
The referee seemed unsure of his decision as he considered it with his assistant.

But the decision stood and Yusuf Maart converted the spot-kick to give them the lead again.

The Chiefs held firm despite Maritzburg throwing everything at the end of the game.

The win kept them in contention for a second-place finish. Maritzburg remain in the relegation zone.
