Lyndon Arthur targets Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez: ‘We’re in the same division. I’m sure these will happen’ | Boxing News

Lyndon Arthur is looking to reclaim his place at the top of the British lightweight division.

175lbs is one of the most exciting weight classes in the country. Arthur should get past Argentina’s Braian Nahuel Suarez this week. But if he wins he will target English rivals Joshua Buatsi, Dan Azeez or Anthony Yarde.

Arthur has picked up two wins since losing to Anthony Yarde.

Joshua Buatsi revealed that he has had a frustrating time away from the ring but is ready to return in May.

He had beaten Yarde soundly in his first contest, but was surprisingly stopped in the rematch.

Arthur believed that he was wrong “just didn’t believe it [Yarde] can be different”.

“This is my cost,” he explained. “I’m too confident. [Physically] I prepared well but I didn’t prepare mentally.

Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom is thrilled to have Joshua Buatsi as the newest fighter in the stable and he wants the biggest fight for the light heavyweight contender.

“It’s a hard pill to swallow. It will make you or break you.”

If he continues to win, he believes a third fight with Yarde could happen.

“I’m sure it will happen eventually. If not, it’s nothing that I want to hurt. But 1-1 and I think it makes sense,” Arthur said. “But if it doesn’t happen, so what.”

Joshua Buatsi, WBA’s no. No. 1 ranked contender, and new European lightweight champion Dan Azeez is also on Arthur’s hit list.

Following the news that Joshua Buatsi has signed up to fight Boxxer and Sky Sports, Dan Azeez says he has no problem fighting his friend in the professional ranks.

“Most definitely. A fight is bound to happen,” Arthur said Sky Sports.

He boxed Buatsi in the final of the national elite amateur championship and the two have sparred more recently.

“I respect Buatsi a lot,” Arthur said. “Buatsi is very good. You learn from sparring good people and me when I’m out there.

“It’s one of them. We’re in the same division. I’m sure this fight will happen.”

He would also love a European title fight with Azeez.

“I think the fight will happen, personally. I think my style and his style will make it a good fight. Obviously I’m sure we’ll win,” he said. “It’s going to be fun.”

But that plan hinges on beating Suarez on Friday. “I think he’s a good fighter, a solid fighter. He looks tough, he looks tough,” Arthur said of the Argentine. “Only lose one, lose many people.”

Arthur expected to deliver. “Just a good performance, a solid performance,” he promised. “I’m doing what I do best, getting back to my winning ways.”

All he had to do was keep winning and, Arthur was sure, the fight would come.
