Former captain Dane van Niekerk has failed to make the Proteas Women’s squad for the T20 World Cup, which will be played in South Africa next month.
Van Niekerk, who has struggled with injuries for more than a year, returned to top-flight cricket late last year, but he was unable to pass Cricket South Africa’s rigorous fitness tests, including running a 2km time trial at certain times. , to be considered for selection.

Just a few weeks ago when Van Niekerk was left out of your squad for the ongoing tri-series, the CSA said he wasn’t gone because he failed to “give national benchmark standards in physical battery assessment.”
‘Not eligible for selection’
“DanĂ© has progressed well and this is a step in the right direction,” electoral convenor Clinton du Preez said on January 17.
“Unfortunately, he does not meet the minimum national standard and is therefore ineligible for selection and we will continue to monitor his fitness as we continue through the tri-series, to assess his eligibility for the World Cup.”
The 15-member squad will be captained by Sune Luus, who took charge of the side when Van Niekerk injured his ankle about a year ago.
The World Cup was held between 10 and 26 February.
