A honky-tonk romance! Luke Combs has an eternal fan in his wife, Nicole Combs (née Hocking) – and has been documented in the songs of country artists.
The “Beer Never Broke My Heart” crooner and Nicole became friends through a mutual acquaintance shortly after he moved to Nashville in 2014. Two years later, the relationship changed when the couple ran into each other at a songwriters festival in Florida.
“I had nothing when we met,” Luke recalled during a March 2020 joint appearance on the “Couple Things With Shawn Johnson and Andrew East” podcast. “I don’t have a record deal or a publishing deal or anything.”
Nicole, who works at Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) in the event, remember to make the first step.
“I left the songwriting round and he was walking around late, and I was just like, ‘Hey, come hang out with us, why are you alone?'” the Florida Gulf Coast University alum explained.
Luke laughed as he explained his “bad” choice of outfit for the occasion. “I’m wearing camo sweatpants from Walmart … nice, cool stuff,” he joked. “And, like, the oldest T-shirt I own, probably.”
The “She Got the Best of Me” singer’s ensemble, does not hinder the ongoing romance. In fact, a few months into the relationship, Lukas revealed that he had previously written his hit song “Beautiful Crazy” about Nicole, which only strengthened their relationship.
The Florida native has since become the inspiration behind many of Luke’s tracks, including “Better Together” and “No One Like You.”
After their August 2020 wedding, the two-time CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year winner honored his and Nicole’s love story by showcasing their moments in the April 2021 music video for “Forever After All.”
Less than a year later, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child. Their son, Tex, arrives in June 2022, just in time for Father’s Day.
“@nicolejcombs and I are very happy with this little boy. Mom and baby are healthy and now we are back home with our family,” Lukas wrote via Instagram at the time. “Life is good. Everyone welcome Tex Lawrence Combs to the world!
Two months later, the new parents celebrated two years of marriage. “Can’t believe I’ve been married to this angel for 2 years,” the “When It Rains It Pours” musician wrote via social media in August 2022. “@nicolejcombs you make every day of my life better than before. . I love you so much and I can’t wait for all the good times to come with you and our little family.
