Losing Haruna Idrissu as Minority Leader won’t change anything – Spio-Garbrah

The former Trade and Industry Minister said the position is not permanent and subject to change by the NDC leadership.

He said that at any given time, the interests of the ruling party and not the interests of the parish of a few are chosen.

He compared the situation with Haruna Iddrisu to former captain Asamoah Gyan, warning that even if Gyan had decades of service to the country, Haruna would be removed at some point.

“Some of them believe that when MPs are in that position, they get benefits but they have to think about the future of the party. People from the North will claim that they have lost some positions but our flag bearer for the last ten years is from the side north. Voltarians are not complaining about this. There are no complaints from the Western and Ashanti caucus, so they should know that it is only a matter of time.

“The Chairman of the Council of Elders is also from the North, so he is well represented. Losing one person doesn’t change anything. He is still in Parliament so we can use his experience.

“Asamoah Gyan no longer plays football. He is no longer the captain of the team, does that mean someone is wrong. There comes a time when there must be a change in position. If you are in the team and the coach changes, it does not mean that the manager is against you. It just means the manager wants the team to progress,” he told Sompa FM.

The Secretary General of the NDC on January 23 sent a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament, Alban Bagbin, in which he announced some changes in the leadership in the parliament.

Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been appointed Minority Leader, replacing Haruna Iddrisu.
