It’s been almost a year since award-winning chef Lorna Maseko’s BBC Lifestyle show Homegrown South African TasteThe media personality is ready to present more of the country’s best cuisine.
As his culinary exploits continue to amaze audiences around the world, Residents get a privileged opportunity to be behind the scenes of season two of Homegrown taste.
In the first season, we were impressed not only by the standard of production and of course the food cooked, but also by the research done by the guests.
Maskeo’s goal is always to put local food on the map which means highlighting local farmers, food and indigenous ingredients. As a viewer, you will not only feast your eyes, but you will gain knowledge from the guests.
Season two
In December last year, we had the opportunity to see what turned out to be a true South African culinary expedition.
Lorna Maseko travels to many regions to celebrate local products.
On set at The Ground in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg, the operation is sharp and precise. The crew, staff and director are happy to share information about their favorite shows.
With boring, precise, and long days, the crew needs patience to get the desired results from each episode.

The celebrity chef said in season two that viewers can expect “a better show” in all aspects and “for South Africans to come and appreciate what kind of produce comes out of this land, this is exciting for me.”
After traveling around the world and experiencing many cuisines, Maseko explains that international food is given more flowers than ours and shows like Homegrown taste change this narrative.
Sustainability
The show will follow the same format by having celebrity guests who cook. The dishes are inspired by the ingredients that Maskeo has come across and the farms he has visited before.

That means more focus on sustainability, ethical agriculture and biodiversity that you can bring into your own kitchen.

Consumers are becoming more conscious of what they buy and where it comes from, buying products that are good for the planet.
Maseko explained: “We live in a land that is deteriorating, I think it is important for us to highlight it for the audience and for ourselves.”

Maseko says this is important and instead of doing it in a documentary style format, her show is more fun and interactive.
Celebrity appearances this season include Luthando ‘LootLove’ Shosha, Gert Johan Coetzee, Anton Jeftha, Blue Mbombo, Sandile Mahlangu and Miss South Africa 2020 Shudufhadzo Musiḓa.
Summing up the importance of the show, he said: “If the farmers don’t improve the soil and produce good yields, we won’t be able to eat. [we are] highlight the concept, farm to plate, [which] vital.”
Homegrown South African Taste The new season premieres on BBC Lifestyle, DStv channel 174 on Friday, March 8 at 8:00 p.m.
