Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has suggested Cody Gakpo could be the only major signing of the January window, saying the club “can’t play like a monopoly” in the transfer market and he has “faith and confidence” in the players he can use.

With strikers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota both sidelined through injury, Liverpool brought in Gakpo, who scored three goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup, from PSV Eindhoven for a reported initial fee of 37 million pounds ($44.67 million).

“I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but we’ve signed an incredible player like Cody Gakpo and the next time you read, ‘Who’s next?'” said the German.

“We can’t play like Monopoly. We’ve never done that… That’s a big part of my philosophy, working with faith and trusting the players we have and not constantly asking them if we need another player in that position.

After a poor start to the season, Liverpool are 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, but have won their last four league games to move into sixth ahead of Monday’s trip to Brentford.
