Schonny Winston doesn’t want to get too caught up in the possibility of ruining Chot Reyes’ final roster for the Fiba (International Basketball Federation) World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Apart from the home side and debutant Justin Brownlee, national coach Chot Reyes believes that the players are familiar with the system and any cohesion that has been created so far as Gilas Pilipinas enter the two Fiba World Cup qualifiers this week.

“That has been evident for the whole program: You keep the core group together, the players who have grown to know each other well and become familiar with our method,” Reyes told the Inquirer. FULL STORY

Adding another name to scratch from the Gilas Pilipinas roster that will take on two visiting nations in the Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers this week.

Gilas Pilipinas found some relief in their growing manpower problems with Jordan Heading and Schonny Winston.

With Roger Pogoy out with a bone injury, national coach Chot Reyes said the basketball program found solace in the performances of both players in camp.

“We have been very impressed with how Jordan has played. Not only him, but Schonny Winston has also done very well,” he told reporters shortly after the National Team’s practice at the Meralco Gym on Monday afternoon. FULL STORY

Whether he cracks the Gilas Pilipinas roster or not, young big man Mason Amos is making the most of the biggest opportunity of his youth so far.

“Whether I make the lineup or not, I’m just thankful for the opportunity,” the Filipino-Aussie told the Inquirer as he wiped sweat from his face after practice.
