Let GES reverse the decision of Chiana SHS student – Sulemana Braimah to Akufo-Addo
Media Foundation Executive Director for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah has blasted the Ghana Education Service (GES) over its decision to expel eight students from Chiana SHS for insulting president Akufo-Addo.
Mr. Braimah called on the president to urge GES to reverse the decision which he said has the ability to destroy the lives of affected students.
He described the decision as pointless and advised the president to consider the dismissed student as his grandson and intercede on his behalf.
Mr. Braimah tweeted: “Dear President Akufo-Addo, I am asking you to ask the GES to immediately reverse the senseless decision to terminate the education of the 8 SHS Chiana girls who used abusive words against you. Of course, the actions of the girls are not just because you are the President, but also because you are old enough to be a grandmother. I doubt they can abuse their own parents like that. And the behavior of their parents should reflect deeply on their own failure as parents. But reducing education, it cannot be choice as punishment.
GES in a statement signed by the Director General, Dr. Eric Nkansah ordered the dismissal of the students after an investigation.
The Ghana Education Service apologized to the president for the student’s mistake and promised to launch an investigation into the incident.
Mr. Braimah further emphasized that the punishment should be reformative and not destructive like what GES gave to the eight students.
“What the children need is reformation, not destruction and there must be a reformation punishment instead of this destructive punishment. If the punishment is to please you, just let the Director General of GES know that you cannot be happy with destructive punishment instead of changing the lives of young students wrongdoing may be motivated by the spirit of youth. Mr. President, let GES immediately reverse its decision.”
