Less Than 500,000 People Stealing Twice What All Ghanaians Borrow To Survive – Kofi Bentil | General News

Anti-corruption campaigner and Senior Vice President of the think tank, Imani Center for Policy and Education (Iman Africa), Kofi Bentil, has lamented the waste of Ghana’s resources through corrupt and corrupt activities.

Mr. Bentil accused a small part of the population – including the political elite and those appointed – causing the rest of the population by corrupt practices, which reduced the country twice from the debt for development purposes.

Mr. Bentil, a long-time activist and anti-corruption activist, stated this in the Newsfile Multimedia program on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

“We stole and spent in this country more than twice what we owe [in the name of development].

There are less than 500,000 people leading this country out of 30 million. And those 500,000 – that’s the ministry and whatever. He stole and spent more than twice what he borrowed 30 million to live on,” he said.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over power mainly by promising to rid the country of corruption. But it consistently performs well in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). A score of 100 means that the country in question is very clean or not corrupt, while a score of 0 means that the country is very corrupt or there is a lot of corruption in the public sector.

The Akufo-Addo-led government has scored 43, the highest score since 2017. This compares to the former National Democratic Congress (NDC), which recorded 43 as the lowest in 2016.

In 2013, Ghana scored 46.00%; 48.00% in 2014; 47.00% in 2015; 43.00% in 2016; 40.00% in 2017; 41.00% in 2018; 41.00% in 2019; 43.00% in 2020; 43.00% in 2021; and 43.00% in 2022. Corruption remains widespread in the country.
