De Zerbi: Difficult situation It is difficult to replace him in the market
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi:
“The situation was difficult because I knew he wanted to leave. I’m sorry for the last period, because I like it better [to play] players that are clear, and do not have some different behavior.
“We will see if we replace him. We are a good team, and we can play well with Leo or without Leo.
“I think in the transfer window you can always improve and bring in new players. But now we are a good XI, the players in the squad are very good players. It is not easy to improve.
“If Toni [Bloom] and the club has the possibility to improve the squad, we will do anything.
Analysis: Trossard is a good deal for both clubs
Kaveh Solhekol Sky Sports News on the Transfer Event:
“It’s a good deal for both clubs. As for Arsenal, they’ve walked away from a deal for Mykhailo Mudryk and now they’re signing someone with Premier League experience.
“It’s a lower signing than Mudryk, although I think it will be a good signing for Chelsea.
“Brighton spent a lot of money on a player they signed about three-and-a-half years ago for £15m. He’s 28 now and doesn’t like Brighton.
“I don’t think they’ll miss him because they have Kaoru Mitoma, who has been incredible the past few months.”
Analysis: Why Trossard appealed to Arsenal
Nick Wright from Sky Sports:
At 28 years old (he is 28 to 29, just so we are clear), Leandro Trossard is different in profile from the new Arsenal sign up. This is a player for the here and now. Experience over potential.
He may not set pulses racing like the explosive Mykhailo Mudryk, a player Arsenal consider a future superstar, but even if his ceiling isn’t as high, Trossard offers a lot that the Ukrainian doesn’t.
For starters, there’s the Premier League experience gained at Brighton, where he’s made 116 appearances over four seasons, missing just a handful of games and scoring a healthy amount of goals, with seven of his 25 coming this season.
That experience makes him a safe bet to go straight into Arsenal, which is exactly what they need as they rely on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as they look to challenge for the title.
Trossard’s versatility is another asset. He is mainly a left winger, like Mudryk, but this season he has also appeared at number 10, as a false nine, and also at left wing-back. Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi’s replacement, also used him on the right.
Mikel Arteta has often spoken about how he values players who can play different roles and Trossard, who is also a senior international for Belgium, can provide depth in the front line.
He also looks stylish. De Zerbi feels his effort level has dipped in recent weeks amid speculation over his future, but the stats highlight his impressive work rate, with just three players – Kevin De Bruyne, Martin Odegaard and Jack Harrison – winning possession in the final third. times this season.
His age means he won’t come with huge scope for improvement or resale, but his contract situation makes him a cheap option and the quality has proven to be attractive.
