MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell said on Monday that he has found the Photo of the Year 2023 in American politics.
O’Donnell said the picture taken was Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) who was physically detained from lunging in Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) followed current House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s 14th failed bid for speaker. the current state of the GOP.
The stunning image “says everything about Republican politics and Republican governance in America today,” O’Donnell said.
“Republicans attacking Republicans, Republicans with no plan descended into chaos on the house floor while trying to do the simplest thing the House does is elect a speaker,” he said.
McCarthy had “the weakest entry into the speakership that we’ve ever seen,” O’Donnell said, before predicting chaos from the chamber’s GOP majority.
“You’re going to see things you’ve never seen before,” he said, citing the lack of a real legislative agenda.
