A Democratic legislature has spilled tea on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene cringey “s***show” in new classified briefing on Chinese spy balloon involving NORAD general.
A source previously told the media that the “irrational” Republican of Georgia was fit during his briefing. Greene himself even bragged about his behavior in a presentation earlier this month. “I’m tearing up,” he bragged to The Hill. “I chewed them up.”
But Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen, who was on the scene, went into more detail. He said he purposely stayed until the end of his briefing so he could witness Greene in action because “I knew it was going to be a shit show.”
“He’s unbelievable…He’s making total, absolute fools,” at the time of the release, Cohen said in an interview on the “Beyond Politics” podcast earlier this week (see the YouTube version below). “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” she added.
Cohen called it “typical” for Greene, and referred to other wild comments in the past, including the assertion that the California wildfires were sparked by “Jewish space lasers.”
Greene blasted the officials during the briefing, saying, “You’re embarrassing the president of the United States. You’re letting this balloon fly over the United States. We don’t know what’s in that balloon,” Cohen said. “It could be nuclear material. It could be radiation … and you allow it to fly in our country for eight days?β he added.
Greene yelled, “That’s bullshit. And I don’t believe anything you’re saying,” Cohen recounted.
The balloon actually flew over the US for four – not eight – days. And officials at the briefing only explained that the balloons were not lowered earlier because of concerns about the possible risk to people in the field, according to Cohen. That’s why authorities waited until the balloon was in the ocean before shooting it off the Carolina coast.
When one of the officers tried to respond to Greene’s comments, he yelled at her, Cohen recounted. “He said, ‘Mom, I didn’t bother you and I’m thankful you didn’t bother me.’ And he was silent,” Cohen added. “But he can’t be trusted.”
Greene could not immediately be reached for comment.
In other strange behavior, Greene notably insulted President Joe Biden during his State of the Union speech. He shouted “sin” when Biden excoriated Republicans for creating a strategy to destroy Social Security. In fact, some Republicans β apparently unknown to Greene β did just that.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) can be seen behind Biden on national TV shushing Greene.
