Which is true. Retired celebrity stylist Law Roach have shown a response to Priyanka Chopra Jonas‘ claims that “peoplee” told him “it’s not a sample size.”
“It’s a little bit painful,” Roach, 44, said in an interview Friday, March 17 with The Cut after Chopra Jonas – his former client – opened up about the “difficulty” he shared while speaking at the 2023 South by Southwest Film Festival Kickoff on March 10.
“In my job the pressure is so high, you can’t show the chinks in your armor,” Chopra Jonas, 40, continued. “Someone said yesterday that I’m not a sample size … I’m sick and I’m talking with my family, and I’m crying with my wife. [Nick Jonas]and my team, and I feel bad about the fact that I’m not the sample size, and this is the problem, apparently, and most of us are not, and the sample size is 2.
While Chopra Jonas did not name Roach during the SXSW panel, he was asked about the comments he made while speaking to The Cut. “It’s not a real conversation,” the fashion expert said. “I never talked to him, ever… That’s his gatekeeper, how he gave what I said to him to make him feel that way. If I made him feel bad… it was taken out of context.
Roach continued: “I’m sure there was no context for him to be like, ‘Oh, OK, I’m not working anymore. He’s insensitive to me.’ [And] I was like, ‘How come? I’ve been wearing you literally pre-pandemic, and it’s been nothing but good.’”
The Chicago native suggested he was made into a “bad guy” by Chopra’s agent Jonas. “I’m in charge of the clothes and the body,” Roach told The Cut. “Like, I’ve got to be the one to say, you know — and I’m not talking about them … I’m just talking in general. I’ve got to be the one to say, ‘Oh, you know, be careful because, you know, the picture— the picture isn’t pretty because you come, you know, thicker than before.’ So, he would say that to me or talk to me, but then repeat it [to her] it’s like I’m the leader of the discussion… I’m not saying that’s what happened, but that’s what happened to me.
Roach then gushed to Chopra Jonas: “I love it [her] … She has this thing that is very Old Hollywood, Sophia Loren — it drives me crazy. He’s got a twinkle, he’s got a wiggle and I love him, like, even as a person.
Roach’s latest comments come after she announced her shock retirement from celebrity fashion on Tuesday, March 14.
“My cup is empty…..thank you to everyone who has supported me and my career over the years,” he began via Instagram. “Everyone who believes in his image, I thank you all. If this business was only about clothes I would do it for the rest of my life, but unfortunately, no! Politics, lies and false narratives finally got me! You win… I’m out. “
One day, Roach explained what his retirement announcement means for the future of the industry. “I didn’t say I retired from fashion,” Roach explained to Vogue after making his modeling debut at the spring/summer 2023 Boss show. “I love fashion. I love business, and I love being creative. What I retire from is part of celebrity style: being a service and a service to others. That’s how I retire, yes.”
He continued: “I am [made this statement] just to take the pressure off myself, right? … I said, ‘You know, I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do in this career. I have received all the awards, accolades, I have changed people’s lives.’ … It really gives me the grace to say, ‘It’s okay. You can do something else.’”
