The Lagos State University (LASU) has denied reports suggesting that it will release admissions lists based on family ties to members of the institution’s management and staff.
In a statement on social media, the university said it was a fake social media post that linked to a list of other potential candidates who could show ties to the university’s workers.
The statement added that the information in circulation indicated that the list would contain the candidates “whose parents/guardians work in LASU as staff or who have a slot of one lecturer or another in LASU”.

LASU said that none of this information has come out of the school and should therefore be taken into account.
“Our attention has been drawn to a post on the 2022/2023 Admission Exercise which is going viral on some unknown social media platforms with the effect *”the next batch of Admission list to be released will be the biological list of their working parents/Guardians. in LASU as a staff member or who has a slot from one lecturer or another in LASU”, he said in a statement.
Afraid
But aspirants are worried about what they describe as a delay in the release of the final admission list. The delay, he said, did not allow him to decide whether to get another UTME form or not.
Every year, all Nigerian students seeking admission to tertiary institutions take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). If they fail to gain admission, they retake the test the following year because the validity of the results is only one year.
When registering for this year’s UTME done in three weekssome candidates are yet to know their fate regarding admission.

Meanwhile, in response to the university’s tweet, some admission seekers requested the institution to release the final admission list before the UTME registration ends.
Twitter users @limaoscar123 said: “Enter all the lists, empathize with parents and candidates to know if they are admitted or not, JAMB has started selling forms so as not to disturb people.”
Another user, Abiodun Elijah (@barristerabey) tweeted: “Why is it taking forever to release your admission list?? Soon, JAMB will announce the closing of form sale.
Guarantee
Meanwhile, a university official who did not wish to be quoted told PREMIUM TIMES that all the lists of admitted candidates have been submitted to JAMB for approval and uploaded to the body’s Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) portal.

The source, who assured fairness and justice in the process, said the pressure from the applicants has increased “because LASU has not gone on strike and the atmosphere has remained peaceful for more than six years now.”
