Last Year Was Very Amazing —James Gardiner | General Entertainment

At a time when many Ghanaian actors are complaining about the lack of jobs in the local movie industry, actor James Gardiner is busy in one production after another in Nigeria and Ghana.

The year 2022 has been very good for him and he is looking forward to an even better new year.

In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, Gardiner said: “Now, I will say that there is a cruise in Nigeria, and thank God.

There is a lot of competition, so even coming from Ghana and still getting a role there on a regular basis is like a big Buzz.

“Thankfully, I have worked with some very good directors, as well as talented actors, so this has been a very good year for me as far as making movies in Nigeria. Movie lovers will see my good work and I will make Ghana proud.

“Ghana is not left out. I have done some productions here, so I am trying to balance it. But it seems like there is more to do in Nigeria just to make sure I am a household name.

“I want to work hard to be a good representative for Ghana there and across Africa. Most of the productions I do will come out this year and when it’s done, everyone can see my work and what I have to offer,” he said.

Touching on the difference between working in Ghana and in Nigeria, Gardiner explained, “I believe we have more in common than people think. I think what suits Nigeria is the number. It is a big country and tends to do more business, because of the number indicating greater consumption.

“For example, in Nigeria, there are many cinemas scattered around where people patronize. Ghana is a very small country – the population of Lagos is just bigger than Ghana – so if we try to compare the two countries in this regard, it becomes irrelevant.

“We have very good actors here, we have very good directors here and we are making a solid production here. I have a problem with funding. Because we don’t have the numbers on our side, we don’t have the mass on our side to balance it or to make the math work out. So we need more corporate sponsorship and government support.
