Lands Minister praises Boundary Commission; urged to solve the problem of land and maritime boundaries
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, has today, Thursday January 12, 2023 praised the Ghana Boundary Commission for its dedication to the protection of Ghana’s territorial and maritime boundaries.
Hon. Jinapor stated this when he led a delegation from the Ministry on a working visit to the office of the Ghana Boundary Commission. The purpose of the visit is to familiarize with the work of the Commission and participate in issues related to the effective operationalization of the office.

He said the Commission has made significant progress in discussions to manage and protect Ghana’s land and maritime borders.
The Minister further stated that emerging security threats in the West African sub-region provide compelling reasons for the Commission to collaborate with its sister institutions in the sub-region to strengthen the territorial integrity of the country.
“According to his mandate, the GhBC must reaffirm, limit and delimit Ghana’s international land and maritime boundaries. And the realization of this mandate has many implications on the territorial integrity and stability and peace of Ghana as well as the West African sub-region,” he said.

“I am impressed with the level of work so far by the GhBC. Although there are challenges, but I assure the Government remains committed to solving it,” he said.
Hon. Jinapor reaffirmed the Government’s determination to provide resources and personnel to enable the Commission to match the contemporary challenges it faces.
” We are determined to have resources, chemical resources, and mineral resources. The land and maritime borders of our country will be firmly defined, demarcated and reaffirmed and that is the mandate of the GhBC, and I am determined to do this,” he said.

In his welcome address, the National Coordinator of the Ghana Border Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia said his office will work with the Ministry to maintain the border and prevent all forms of illegal activities along the border.
Madam Sarah Akuba, the Director in charge of Policy, Planning and Programs at the Commission, gave a comprehensive presentation on the scope of work the Commission is doing to the Minister.

It sheds light on the challenges as well as the vision and strengths of the commission and calls for the mMnister’s support to function efficiently.
