*Revealing that residents donated 256 units of blood
The Lagos State Government, on Friday, said that 32 people have been discharged from the 102 passengers who were involved in the train accident that occurred on Thursday at the PWD Bus stop area of the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomo, made the disclosure on Friday during a press briefing to give an update on the incident.
According to the commissioner, 19 of the victims were admitted at the Lagos State University of Teaching (LASUTH), five who were admitted at the Tollgate Emergency Center and eight who were admitted at the Orile-Agege General Hospital have been discharged.
Abayomi further said that all the others who were admitted were very stable, stating that the accident happened around 7:30am when the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived at the scene at 7:45am, just as the injured passengers arrived at LASUTH. at 8:30 am.
According to LASEMA, it is very good to separate the bus from the train, so since 12 noon yesterday until now, no passengers have died.
The commissioner commended LASUTH for its efforts as only a few hospitals in the world are capable of dealing with emergencies.
Abayomi also applauded Lagos residents for donating blood voluntarily to the state blood bank, revealing that 256 units of blood samples were donated by those who came forward after calling for blood donors.
He added that 40 units of blood were transfused to the victims so far.
He said that to ensure that the victims are adequately served the victims are distributed to several hospitals outside LASUTH.
He listed other hospitals that treated the victims apart from LASUTH including Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos Island General Hospital, Orile Agege General Hospital and the Emergency Center at Lagos Tollgate.
