District Government Labor Party (LP), Alex Otti, has been declared the winner of the Abia State governorship election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Nnenna Oti, made the declaration at the State Collation Centre, Umuahia, the state capital, on Wednesday.
Mrs Oti, a professor and vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, made the declaration after collating the results from Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
PREMIUM TIMES reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday suspended the collection of governorship results from the council area due to allegations of attacks on officials and irregularities.
The commission was said to have completed the review of the results of the dispute and okayed the continuation of the results of the collation of the council.
In the results from Obingwa LGA, the LP candidate polled a total of 3,776 votes while the candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Okey Ahiwe, got a total of 9,962 votes.
The final results showed that the LP candidate won in 10 regions, while the PDP candidate won in six regions.

The Young Progressive Party candidate won in Osisioma Local Government Area, where he is from.

There are 17 local government areas in the country.
Mr. Otti, the LP candidate, polled a total of 172,386 votes to beat his nearest rival and PDP candidate, Mr. Ahiwe, who got a total of 8,8174 votes to second.
