Some leaders of the Labor Party (LP) in Southwestern states have shifted their support to the presidential candidate All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, said the party has become a shaky platform.
Omotoso Banjo, who is the chairman of the southwest branch of the party, led the group at a press conference in Akure on Monday.
He said the LP in the region had collapsed structurally into groups supporting Mr. Tinubu ahead of the February 25 presidential election.
The LP Secretary in Ondo State, Omowumi Olosola, also announced his defection at the event, along with other members of the party.
“The Labor Party is now a shaky platform for anyone to contest. The Labor Party is a failed platform for anyone to contest. I don’t know Peter Obi and I am less concerned about him, but I am concerned about those who celebrate the mediocrity of the Labor Party in Nigeria,” Mr Omotoso said.
“According to this, we the leaders of the Labor Party in the south-west have decided to leave the party because we have a lot of mediocrity there and what they are looking for is money, they are not ready to serve Nigeria.
“The Labor Party is not ready to serve Nigeria, that’s why we decided to leave the party and come to APC. I collapsed the structure of the party in Ekiti State. So, I don’t know how Obi can come now and embarrass us in the South West.”
“We are the pillars of the party in the south-west, and to the glory of Allah SWT, we have destroyed that structure.

” I was very surprised to hear from the DG of the party, Akin Osuntokun, we do not know him in the Labor Party, Osuntokun represents his personal interest.
“So, Osuntokun we don’t know you and you better go back to APC and work for Bola Tinubu.

“We left and collapsed the structure of the Labor Party in the entire South-West through Senator Dayo Adeyeye to the APC.”
Former Minister of State for Works and National Coordinator of the Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA 2023, Dayo Adeyeye, while receiving the decampees, said the move was a boost to the APC in the region.

There was no immediate reaction from the party hierarchy on the sudden defection of the leaders.
However, factions continue to exist in Ogun and other South-western states, but Mr. Obi is adamant that it will not affect his campaign and his aim to win the presidential election.
