The Labor Party presidential campaign council has denied claims that the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akinolu, barred the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from visiting the royal palace during a campaign rally in Lagos on Saturday.
The director general of the LP presidential campaign council, Akin Osuntokun, in a statement on Monday, said the press release with the statement was a lie and did not come from him.
“The fraudulent release stated, among other things, that ‘We told the Oba of Lagos that Peter Obi wanted to come and pay his respects to him before the rally in Lagos, but the Oba said we should not come’,” Osuntokun said.
The fictitious release further stated that the reason Oba did not want to meet with Peter Obi was that ‘Oba is not interested in seeing any other presidential candidate apart from Bola Tinubu.
Osuntokun stated that he never spoke to the Oba of Lagos or his representative and therefore urged the public to ignore the press release.
“I want to state clearly that the fictitious release did not emanate from me, and I have never spoken to the Honorable Oba of Lagos or his representative. Please disregard any release it represents.
“For now, ignore any other releases that don’t come from our campaign’s official communication channels.”
