The biggest political betting news today is that general elections will be held in the Scottish seats of Rutherglen and Hamilton West which are the SNP’s gains from LAB in GE2019.
The Rutherglen and Hamilton West MP broke Covid rules in 2020 by taking a train from London to Scotland after testing positive.
The standards watchdog recommended that he be banned from the Commons for 30 days – a punishment that has now been confirmed.
This now paves the way for petitioning voters in the constituency on whether they should continue. 10% of voters would have to support a proposal that would cause them to lose their seats.
This could not have come at a better time for Scottish LAB who have been leading the way in the polls.
