KZN MEC Sport, Arts, Culture condemns AKA’s murder



Rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and his bodyguard were shot dead on a Durban Florida street on Friday evening. According to the police report, the two men were standing outside the Wish Restaurant when unknown gunmen came down the street and opened fire.

AKA’s parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes confirmed the news of their son’s death in a statement this morning.

“It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic death on the evening of February 10, 2023.”

‘News of AKA’s death shocked and angered’

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Amanda Bani-Mapena said attacks and killings of music artists often go unheard, and the news of AKA’s death was not only shocking, but also infuriating.

“The tragic murder, regardless of the motivation, has not only weakened the AKA family, but has caused pain in one of the successful stories of artists in South Africa, Africa and the world. AKA is a household name globally,” Bani-Mapena said in a statement today. Friday afternoon.

He further condemned the shooting of the rapper by saying that he [KwaZulu-Natal] refuse to be defined as a province that does not recognize the value of human life.

“We cannot allow the life of an artist to be taken in an inhuman way. This has left us confused and lost. We hope that the law enforcement agencies will do their job to bring the perpetrators to justice. We offer our condolences to his family, fans and friends an industry he loves,” said Bani-Mapena.

Politicians are saddened by the death of AKA

Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema took to his Twitter account on Friday evening after the news of the rapper’s death started trending on social media showing his disbelief at the news.

“What happened to our artists today?”, his tweet read.

ANC Secretary General and Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula also took to Twitter to express his grief, tweeting only the word ‘AKA’ with a broken heart emoji.
