The office of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) said she did not offer a word of encouragement to Rep. George Santos (RN.Y.) in the State of the Union earlier this week, as a congressman has a statement.
On Thursday interview with Newsmax, Santos claimed that Sinema was considered better than Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) in President Joe Biden’s annual speech to Congress on Friday. Romney told the truth-challenged congressman he didn’t belong in Congress in a tense exchange ahead of the speech.
“Kyrsten Sinema, when they were walking, they were talking about the effect of ‘Hang in there buddy,’ or something like that,” Santos told Newsmax. “I said, ‘Thank you, Madam Senator.’
He added: “He was very polite [and] good heart He is a good man, unlike Mr. Romney who thinks he is superior and who rides the white horse of power trying to talk morality to us.
But a Sinema spokesperson denied the character and said “lie.”
“I can confirm that did not happen,” Hannah Hurley, the senator’s communications director, told HuffPost in an email.
A video of Santos’ confrontation with Romney, which did not capture audio of the conversation, appears to show Santos briefly addressing Sinema. “By the way, thank you, how are you?” Santos appear to say to the Arizona senator when Romney harassed the congressman for trying to shake Biden’s hand.
It is not clear whether Sinema spoke to Santos or Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who stood next to him. He and Romney quickly moved on before Biden was set to deliver an address in the House chamber.
“He’s a sick puppy. It shouldn’t be there,” Romney toward reporters after the speech. “Because of the fact that he’s under ethics investigation, he should sit in the back row and be quiet instead of parading in front of the president. You certainly shouldn’t be in the hallway trying to shake hands with the President of the United States and the dignitaries that come in. It’s a shame.
Santos’s credibility is suspect. They make up almost every aspect of their personal biography, including their academic credentials, work history and ancestry. He even lied about his mother being in the World Trade Center during the September 11th terror attacks.
Most of these revelations came to light after he was elected to Congress. He has resigned from House committee duties but refused to resign during an investigation by the House ethics panel.
