Kwara Attack: Over 700 Plateau Indigenes Displaced – LG Deputy Chair

At least 707 natives of Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Council of Plateau State have been displaced following the February 3, 2026, terrorist massacre in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Recall that gunmen had attacked Woro and neighbouring villages leaving over 160 people dead and many others injured.

Our correspondent gathered that several natives of the Aten community in Ganawuri had travelled to Kwara State to farm and engage in other commercial activities.

Hon. Gwong  Song, deputy chairman of Riyom LGA told journalists that “707 persons from Aten community were displaced following the attack in Kwara. So far, approximately 200 individuals have returned home from Woro. Those who returned are not in formal IDP camps but are staying with relatives, loved ones and family members who have provided shelter and support amid the destruction.”

According to him, Riyom LGA has intervened by approving about N3 million to provide vehicles and cover transportation costs for safer returns of the displaced persons.

The deputy chairman also disclosed that four members of the community sustained injuries during the attack and are currently receiving treatment in Kwara State. He added that about ten other residents are still being held captive by the gunmen.

According to him, the community has planned a special remembrance day on Thursday to honour those who lost their lives and mourn the losses suffered by families across the affected states.

A member of the community, who gave his name as Timothy Lazarus, called for urgent federal and state interventions for those who returned home.
