The 23-year-old was Kotoko’s top scorer on his departure, although he has yet to repeat that in Algeria.
Despite struggling in North Africa, having been loaned out to Saudi Arabian side Najran SC last year, Opoku is adamant that the move has paid off.
According to him, the monthly salary he brings home at USM Alger is enough to take care of him for a year.
“The Algerian league pays very well because one month’s salary can take care of you for a year if you don’t spend on unnecessary things,” Opoku told Asempa FM, according to Ghanaweb.
However, he is quick to point out that, as in Ghana, late pay is common in Algeria, even when it is finally paid.
“Sometimes we can go five months without a salary being paid, but the difference is you are well paid so it doesn’t affect us,” he added.
Opoku has shown his readiness to return to Kotoko, who won the Ghana Premier League last season.
