Kristine Paraon claims gold, silver in World Rowing Indoor Championships

MANILA, Philippines—Rosser Kristine Paraon led the country’s campaign at the 2023 World Rowing Indoor Championships with a pair of medals during the virtual meet.

The pride of Zamboanga City recorded the fastest time in the women’s 2000 meters in seven minutes 30.3 seconds to win the gold medal before placing second in the women’s 500m with a time of one minute 40.2 seconds.

Tokyo Olympian Cris Nievarez also made sure he would be in the spotlight, claiming the bronze medal in the men’s 2000m (6:21.4) against many top-ranked competitors from around the world.

Joining Paraon and Nievarez is Athens Tolentino, who took bronze in the lightweight men’s 500m at the world indoor championships, making a total of 12 Filipino rowers qualify based on the latest Asian rankings.

Rynjie Penaredondo almost moved up the medal standings after winding up fourth in the lightweight men’s 500m (1:29.2) while Van Maxilom finished fifth in the same event clocking 1:29.5.

Feiza Lenton and Kharl Julianne Sha in the women’s 500m lightweight, Edgar Ilas and Zuriel Sumintac in the men’s 500m, Amelyn Pagulayan (women’s 500m), CJ Jasmin (men’s 2000m) and Roque Abala did not get medals. 2000m men).
