Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Smartex in Samreboi on Saturday in a highly competitive match.

The Porcupine Warriors dominated the game in the first half, going into the break with a comfortable two goal lead, thanks to strikes from Enock Morrison and Rocky Dwamena in the 32nd and 41st minutes.

Despite a strong second half performance by Smartex, who pulled one back at the end of the game, Kotoko managed to hold on for the win, lifting them up to third place in the league standings. The win was a much-needed boost for the club after losing to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak last time out.

Meanwhile, in the other match played on Saturday, Tamale City won 3-1 at home against Dreams FC to boost their survival hopes.

Sampson Eduku scored a brace for the home side, with Nafiu Sulemana adding a third to secure victory at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Dreams FC’s only goal came through an Ali Huzaf penalty in the second half, but it proved to be only a consolation for the visitors.

The victory saw Tamale City move up to 16th place, just one point away from safety, while Dreams FC dropped to 11th place with 27 points after 22 matches.
