Kody Brown has given new insight into his failed marriage to Meri Brown.
And the main insight of polygamous father 18 was up on Sunday night Sister Wives tell-all special?
This marriage was actually questionable from the start.
“We have a lot of history and I love him,” Meri admitted to host Sukanya Krishnan early on, adding her ex-husband:
“He chose not to love me and not want a relationship with me and until now, he thinks he is not married to me. So I think that we are sitting with.
Kody went on to point out that the estranged couple entered into plural marriage at a “young age” and had to “raise a family” without means.
“I married Meri and it was a difficult relationship from the beginning,” he said on air.
In part one of the same special, Kody says he doesn’t consider himself remarried to Meri… a revelation that crushed his wife.
Kody got into a relationship with Janelle Brown after meeting his first wife, calling Janelle a “blessing of dilution. [because] it made my relationship with Meri worse.
“I’m in a solid relationship with someone that I don’t even get together with and then I bring someone else in and then now triangulating,” Kody explains bringing Janelle to the universe of relationships.
“Then we brought Christine in and it seemed to calm down because we started having children and we seemed to have a more unified focus even though the strain was constant.”
The obvious answer to all of this is, of course, that polygamy is an unfair and sexist arrangement.
But Kody didn’t see it that way; He said his marriage to Meri went “stormy” immediately after the “honeymoon period”.
For the record, Meri and Kody got married in 1990 and the couple welcomed their son Leon Brown in 1995.
He ended up marrying Janelle and Christine spiritually before welcoming his fourth, final and, this time, only one. valid wife, Robyn Brown.
But in November 2021, Christine announced she was leaving the family, returning to Utah in the process.
Since then, Janelle has also confirmed that she and Kody have separated, while it sounds very much like Meri has finally gotten the message and is not really with Kody at all anymore.
In the second part of this reunion, meanwhile, Kody said for the first time that Janelle had previously left a plural marriage.
“The family is in a bad place because Janelle moved. She’s done. She’s gone with her mom,” he said.
“I don’t think he left me, but he left him because I didn’t give him enough support. He couldn’t stay with Christine and Meri anymore.
“It’s just too much of a burden on his life.”
