Nigel Twiston-Davies’ I Like To Go It’s facile victor Wincanton Jennings Bet Kingwell Hurdle on Saturday.
The six-year-old, last seen finishing sixth in the Grade Two Relkeel Hurdle, is one of a small field of four runners and sent off 100/30 chance.
Joined by the trainer’s son Sam, who won the Greatwood in November, I Like To Move was ridden patiently over the one-mile-seven-furlong trip.
On the way home he started to drop back, jumped in last place and then sped away from Paul Nicholls’ Knappers Hill to score easily by 17 lengths in the Grade Two.
Sam Twiston-Davies said: “It was a fantastic performance.
“Dad and I were talking on the way down. If you were to make a race for him it would be the International Hurdle over two miles at Cheltenham, but now it has come to one of the easiest two-mile tracks. The ground and he has looked as fast as ever. He is a very good horse at home and he showed it today.
“The two options at Cheltenham are the County Hurdle and the Champion Hurdle. God knows what he’ll be rated for after today, so I just think he’ll go for the Champion Hurdle.
“Obviously Constitution Hill is a flight, but there is big money on offer and he deserves to be there. To win and win will be very difficult, but horse racing and you never know. He is still a young horse and we are still lucky to have him.”
The winning charmer feels that retreating into the distance has become important.
He said: “It’s good, isn’t it! Two and a half miles at Cheltenham last time wasn’t good for him but to bring him back to two miles, we’re certainly looking forward to it today.
“I know we can’t get close to Constitution Hill, but we’ll give them something to think about [in the Champion Hurdle] and where else can we go after such a performance? Cheltenham here we come!
“He’s up there with the best fillies I’ve ever trained like The New One and Khyber Kim, who was second in the Champion Hurdle.”
