Key suspects in Ashaiman soldier murder arrested – Police

About a week ago, the killing of a young soldier in Ashaiman caused tension across the country.

His death sparked outrage and anger among the military as on Tuesday, March 7, some military personnel raided Ashaiman and harassed some residents in search of his friend’s killer.

This invasion by the military saw some citizens picked up for interrogation.

Many have since condemned the actions by the military, describing them as inhumane.

Members of Parliament in the region expressed their hatred for what the soldiers did, even though the killing of the young soldier was a cruel act.

“We cannot take the law into our hands whether we are members of parliament or security agencies.”

Amnesty International Ghana also condemned the military action.

“Amnesty International Ghana opposes all forms of violence and human rights violations and condemns the violence perpetrated by the military against civilians. The military must step down and allow the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of the soldier,”

However, the Ghana Armed Forces said the operation was merely a manhunt for some criminals and not for revenge.

“The military operation, which was approved by the Military High Command, was not to avenge the killing of the soldiers, but to hunt down the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.”

At “blink” they said they have led to the arrest of about 184 suspects aged between 21 and 47 years and they have since been handed over to the military police who will then send them to the Ghana Police Service for screening and further action.
